Spring 2011 Community Service

One of our Spring semester philanthropy events was assisting with the setup and cleanup of the Polar Plunge Dive. This was the second year that our fraternity has assisted with this specific community function. This year we went above and beyond last year's proceeds, which supported the Special Olympics. Theta Chi had 8 participants that jumped into the lake, each raising over $75 towards this cause.

March, 2010
In March, 15 brothers participated in a street cleanup on University Avenue. Rho Chapter of Theta Chi has an adopted a highway of 2 miles that borders campus. Below is a photo of some brothers that regularly help make the community more cleaner on University Avenue.

April 15-16, 2011
Did someone say Christie, or Krispy? Near the end of April, we sold Krispy Kreme donuts to help raise money for our Team In Training. With nearly a thousand dollars in Donut Sales, our house was able to donate the proceeds to the Christie Clinic. A big round of applause should be given to the brothers that woke up early to help make this event possbile.

April 29-30, 2011
Champaign-Urbana was host to this year's 2011 Illinois Marathon, and Theta Chi was represented by Brothers Rob Zielinski, Jack Riordan, and Lucas Raleigh. These three took the time out of their day to run and get in shape and conquer one of many running events available to students on campus.

The Helping Hand


The chapter's philanthropy/community service program should exemplify our motto of "An Assisting Hand." The program should contain a general philosophy of the chapter toward philanthropic and community service, a list of organizations/individuals assisted through the process, the number of members and other groups that participated, total hours worked and total dollar amount contributed. The program should also contain a number of hands-on service learning projects, as well as media coverage and/or any other correspondence involved with the efforts.

Philanthropy is defined as an activity done to raise money or donate funds to an non-profit organization.

Community Service is defined as something made or done by an organization for the public benefit and without regard to direct profit.
